After the war, Arnold and his wife no longer wanted to stay in Europe. Alfred Wochenmark was able to help his brother and the now pregnant Johanna obtain an affidavit. In New York, the two brothers and their families initially lived in close quarters. Later, Arnold and Johanna were able to move in with a cousin in Brooklyn.
Arnold Wochenmark found employment as a pastry chef in a hotel, which secured the family's livelihood. In 1947, he was able to obtain a job with Nestlé as a senior manager in a praline factory in San Francisco.
