In 1925, the family of four moved to Tübingen. Father Josef Wochenmark earned his doctorate at the university to become a rabbi and was the cantor of the Jewish community. The family regularly rented out one of the six rooms, including kosher meals, to Jewish students, who participated in discussions at the dining table about Judaism and politics. Josef Wochenmark placed great importance on the education of his sons, both general education and religious matters.
