Alfred and Arnold Wochenmark attended the Uhland High School in Tübingen. Arnold remembered his childhood as very idyllic and happy.
But anti-Semitism was already noticeable in Tübingen before 1933. In 1928, the windows of the Tübingen synagogue were destroyed. When the National Socialists came to power on January 30, 1933, Arnold also experienced hostility himself. Under these circumstances, his school performance suffered and he was soon transferred to the Realschule.
