Hans attended the Knaben-Oberrealschule (today Kepler-Gymnasium). The only Jewish student, he had friends among his classmates.

Nevertheless, since 1933, everyday school life was increasingly influenced by National Socialist politics, and so Hans's mother also reported exclusions and insults towards him by the other children. As the exclusion of the Jewish population continued to increase, the parents looked for other schools for their children.
