Visitors from Israel had already come to Baisingen and told of their lives. Fredy's religion teacher Herbert Kahn had also repeatedly touted: "You must go to Israel!"
Fredy had made his first trip in 1968.
"My father didn't want to, but I told my mother, come on, let's go to Israel. Then we went by car to Venice and by boat to Haifa. [...] My mother, my cousin Franklin from England and I drove around Israel in my father's Mercedes - it was wonderful, and we went to Shavei Zion."
Jews with roots in Baisingen lived there.
In 1988, twenty years later, Fredy and Cathy Kahn finally organized their oldest daughter's bat mitzvah celebration there. "That was a huge celebration."
