Ludwig Baum was responsible for feeding the livestock in Shavei Zion and worked as the night watchman of the settlement.

Klara Baum worked in the vegetable garden and in the laundry of the cooperative.

At the end of 1939, the family was able to move into their own house in Shavei Zion.
