Zipora,

the wife of Hillel, was born Josephine Perez in Oran, Algeria in 1936. With her parents Aharon and Aziza Perez and her brothers, she attempted to immigrate to Palestine via France. The family was separated in France. Josephine changed her name there to Zipora, which means bird in Hebrew.

Zipora then came to Palestine via Haifa in 1949 and found her parents again in Jerusalem. She worked as a nurse.
During a vacation in Shavei Zion, she met Hillel.
