Hillel learned the carpentry trade in Shavei from Jula Rotbein.
Later, and until his retirement, he worked as a technical manager in a factory near Goren that manufactured chipboard.
He was held in high esteem by all the employees of the factory and was relied upon to fix any problem that arose. He worked long hours almost every day, sometimes traveling to a branch of the factory in the center of the country. In 1959, Hillel and Zipora built themselves a beautiful new house with a large garden in Shavei Zion.
In the military, he performed reserve service - still an enormous amount of reserve service. Even in the Yom Kippur War, at the age of 45, he served in the Israeli army and drove a large truck.
