In Rexingen, the school situation changed for the better for Herbert. There was a Jewish school here. All of his classmates were Jewish children. Helmut Kahn, a teacher in Rexingen, continued to keep the school notebook from Alzey.
He noted the following about Herbert in the winter semester of 1938/39: "An attentive student who gladly fulfills his duties. A good comrade in the school community."
