The Theresienstadt [Terezín] concentration camp was located about 60 km north of Prague. It was the "transit camp" to the extermination camps Auschwitz and Treblinka. The fear of being put on a deportation list dominated everyday life, as did the constant hunger and the catastrophic hygienic conditions.
Inge fell ill with scarlet fever shortly after her arrival. Her doll Marlene was with her and gave her comfort.
In Theresienstadt, Inge found a friend in Ruth. They promised each other to always stay together, but Ruth was deported in one of the last transports to Auschwitz and murdered there.
Theresienstadt was liberated by the Red Army on May 8, 1945.
