Inge Auerbacher has been honored many times for her tireless work for democracy, peace and tolerance. Among others, she received the Ellis Island Medal of Honor in 1999 and the Louis E. Yavner Citizen Award.
In 2005, she was awarded an honorary doctorate from Long Island University Brooklyn. Her birthplace, Kippenheim, offered the Inge Auerbacher Prize, which is awarded to students and institutions that promote tolerance and human rights.
In 2013, she was awarded the Order of Merit of the State of Baden-Württemberg and the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
