On the night of the pogroms November 9th to 10th, 1938, the synagogue in Göppingen was burned down. In Kippenheim, the synagogue was completely destroyed inside. The Jewish men were arrested and deported to Dachau concentration camp, including Inge's father and grandfather.

Regina Auerbacher, Inge Auerbacher's mother, told a student at the Hohenstaufen High School in Göppingen in 1988 how she had experienced the pogrom night and the days after in Kippenheim in 1938.
