The escape to Palestine became more and more difficult. Nazi Germany had attacked Poland on September 1, 1939. There were only very few entry certificates for Palestine.
With the help of the International Red Cross, children could still enter the country. The parents of Jakob took this opportunity for their son. They organized his trip from Munich to Trieste and from there by ship to Haifa. There, Jakob was welcomed by his uncle Julius and accepted into his family.
He no longer wanted to use his German first name Heinz. He now called himself Jakob.
