Lilian wanted to study, but lacked money. After graduating from school, she had various jobs. Finally, she found work in a photography store. She liked it because she had contact with interesting people and learned to take pictures herself.

She took pictures of the stars for an opera journal and got to know many of them.

She now led her own life. In 1959 she married Arthur Donald Barber, a Protestant Navy soldier.
