After Pogrom Night, Lila's father was arrested on November 10, 1938, and taken to Dachau concentration camp. Lila and her mother were in shock. On November 15, 1938, Lila was expelled from school.

In Dachau, her father had to commit himself to leaving Germany within a quarter of a year. After his return, the parents prepared their escape. They had already been forced to sell their house to the city of Rottenburg at the beginning of November 1938 and were still living in it for rent.
