For a long time as a schoolboy, Pavel did not know that he was Jewish. He attended religious education classes and went to Catholic mass. Early on, he noticed that his friends Pavel and Tibor did not come to religious education classes. When Pavel tried to participate in religious education, he was often ignored by his teacher. He approached his cousin, who was 8 years older than him. She explained to him that he was Jewish. From then on, he went to synagogue with his uncle Immrich Földes three times a year, celebrated his bar mitzvah and learned a little Hebrew. Although he was mostly in contact with Jewish families, he experienced many anti-Semitic remarks from his classmates.
