After graduating from school, he returned to his birthplace, Prague, where he studied engineering. Pavel Hoffmann came to Germany for his internship, which was part of his studies, in 1968 during the "Prague Spring". He wanted to return to a democratized Czechoslovakia after two years. He was already married, and his wife and two children accompanied him. After the Warsaw Pact countries invaded Prague, the family decided to stay in Germany for the time being. He still lives there - in Reutlingen since 1972. He worked as a lecturer and development tester until his retirement.
