After the end of the Second World War, Ruth moved to the United States of America at age 25 on June 22, 1946.

She married Joseph Albert Solomon and moved to New Jersey with him, and eventually to Paramus, Bergen County in the State of New York. The married couple had two children.

Their daughter Miriam Lerner donated the “Page of Testimony” for her grandfather Leon Schmalzbach to the memorial center Yad Vashem in Israel.
