In 1986, Ruth Solomon, accompanied by her husband, returned to her birthplace Hechingen for the first time since her emigration.
She had been invited for the opening ceremony of the memorial site for the Old Synagogue Hechingen. Music composed by her father Leon Schmalzbach was played.
In a letter to the mayor Roth and his wife, Ruth Solomon expressed that all of the compositions reminded her of her time in Hechingen with her father. She expressed her memories of her hometown in the following way:
