In Bayreuth, Ruth attended the secondary school for girls from 1931 until 1937. Jewish teachers and rabbis were employed there to provide religious education to Jewish students. Between 1867 and 1938, over 180 Jewish students attended this school.
Until 1933, no antisemitic incidents were recorded in the school’s documents. The memories of former students affirm that interactions at the school were amenable until the National Socialists assumed power.
Some Jewish students remember that school principal Gustav Pauli stood up for them during the antisemitic alignment of the school that was to follow.
