In 1933, the entire teaching staff had to join the “National Socialist Teachers League”. His health compromised, Gustav Pauli relinquished some of his duties as school principal. These were assumed by a national socialist teacher. The curriculum was adjusted for the national socialist ideology. The “League of German Girls” (BDM) was established at the school. During the school year 1937/1938, only the last two remaining Jewish students were not members of the BDM. One of them was Ruth. The parents of Ruth and of her Jewish classmate were informed that they were not wanted at the school and should leave it.
Ruth was able to graduate from the school in 1937 regardless. This was likely only possible thanks to the protection offered by Pauli, who was school principal at the time.
