After the night of the pogrom on November 9, 1938, Elias Schwarz was forced to surrender his cattle-trading license.

He was forced to perform hard labor at Bildechingen, 8 kilometers away. He had to walk the 16 kilometers each day. Under financial hardship, the family sold their house. They were able to continue living there as tenants.

Trude lived in Frankfurt from May until the end of September 1940 and from March to mid-May 1941 she lived in Stuttgart. It can be assumed that she was searching for opportunities for work and for escape for herself and her parents.

Her sister Bella was able to flee to the British Mandate of Palestine and her sisters Meta and Citty were able to emigrate to the USA at the beginning of 1939.

Trude and her parents did not manage to escape from National Socialist Germany any more.
