In an interview during his visit to Horb in 2019, Vern Gideon talks about his children:
"The legacy that I was able to escape the Nazis with my family,
the legacy that I leave is sitting behind you.
I don't know why my family was spared while six million others were not,
but the legacy that I leave is sitting behind you. I could not ask for more.
HaShem, the good Lord, has blessed me and my wife, has blessed us with this legacy.
And when I ask, for what? For what reason? Why did I survive? Why did my family survive?
That's the reason. That's the legacy."
